The curators met in 2016 and a conversation quickly began on co-curating an exhibition with a positive message. Their title choice was partly inspired by A Tribe Called Quest’s 1998 album “The Love Movement” but also by Sansing and Sentrock’s already existing styles that encompass a sense of acceptance, love and celebration for oneself and for others. “We felt it was time to put together an inspirational exhibition of works by 2 artists we both admire and who embody the concept of love through their work. It’s time for that message.” – Kimberly Atwood, co-owner of Elephant Room Gallery.

Sansing’s bold strokes of color worked into photorealistic portrayals of people of color through movement and expression is a statement on self-love and strength. The work is whimsical while at the same time seriously profound in its statement. Sentrock draws inspiration from the strength and freedom of animals like birds and wolves in order to portray half human half animal subjects while embodying a message of hope. Sentrock uses text over much of his work that contain inspirational messages like “Too Dope to Lose Hope” or “You Can Fly Higher”. The 2 artist’s work together is a powerful message of our own strength, beauty and resilience. “Love Movement” is a movement by artists that is for everyone.

“Love Movement” opens with a reception on Friday, May 5th from 6pm to 10pm at Elephant Room Gallery located at 704 S Wabash Ave. in the South Loop. The exhibition runs through May 29th and open hours can be found on the gallery’s website:www.elephantroomgallery.com.
